Georgia Tech’s George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering is considering applicants for an Academic Professional (non-tenure-track) position for Director of Design and Innovation.  This position will support the instruction and innovation mission of the Woodruff School with a specific focus on the integration of engineering design creativity, hands-on projects, and the undergraduate curriculum.  The School’s design course sequence ranges from an introductory freshman course to an integrative senior capstone design course.

The successful candidate is expected to assist faculty in the formulation and evaluation of design projects, interface with our corporate partners in the solicitation of design projects and funds, and supervise the operation of the School’s design studios.  The successful candidate will also be expected toteach in the design course sequence.  Hands-on design and manufacturing skills are beneficial to this position and to the educational mission of the design studios. In addition, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to interact effectively with a wide constituency including undergraduate and graduate students, multidisciplinary faculty, industry partners, and administrators.

Qualifications:  A Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related field is desirable, a candidate with an M.S. degree and a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience in design and/or development will be considered.
